What is ART Therapy?
“Keep the knowledge, lose the pain”
Accelerated Resolution Therapy, or ART, is an evidenced-based therapy that uses bilateral eye movements to replace negative images and the associated negative symptoms and sensations with positive images, which the client chooses. It desensitizes clients to distressing memories and thoughts, while at the same time allowing them to experience positive emotions, called positization.
Something unique about ART is that a client does not have to speak about any details of the trauma if they do not wish to do so. This can make sessions easier on the client and allows them to remain in control. ART is considered a brief therapy, often being completed in 1-5 sessions, and has been shown to produce a faster recovery.
