What is a Registered Intern therapist in Florida?
A Registered Intern is a therapist who has completed their master’s degree in a counseling‑related field such as Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, or Marriage and Family Therapy and has been approved by the state of Florida to begin practicing clinically.
After graduating, therapists must complete a minimum of two years of supervised clinical experience before they can become fully licensed. During this time, Registered Interns provide therapy while working under the ongoing supervision of a qualified licensed clinical supervisor who reviews cases and supports their clinical development.
This process is similar to how physicians complete a residency period under supervision after graduating from medical school.
Many clients appreciate working with Registered Interns because they bring current training, fresh clinical perspectives, and strong supervisory support while often offering greater appointment availability and flexible scheduling.

Telehealth sessions are conducted through a secure HIPAA‑compliant platform and are available for clients throughout Florida.
Do you accept insurance?
Some of our therapists accept insurance plans such as Aetna, Cigna, and Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO plans, while others operate on a private‑pay basis.

How long are therapy sessions?
Most therapy sessions are 45–60 minutes, although initial assessments and couples sessions may be longer. Your therapist will discuss session length and treatment planning during your first appointment.
How often will I attend therapy?
Many clients begin with weekly sessions. As progress is made, sessions may move to bi‑weekly or monthly depending on your goals and progress.
Your therapist will collaborate with you to determine the pace that best supports your needs.
What if I’m not sure therapy is right for me?
It’s normal to feel unsure about starting therapy. Many people begin therapy simply wanting a supportive space to talk, gain clarity, and learn coping strategies.
A free 15‑minute consultation can help you ask questions and determine whether therapy feels like the right step for you.
What if I need to cancel my appointment?
If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, we require at least 24 hours’ notice. This allows us to offer the appointment time to another client who may be waiting for care.
You may call or text our office 24/7 to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Messages received outside of office hours will be time‑stamped and honored based on when they are received.
Appointments canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice, or missed appointments, may be subject to a late cancellation or no‑show fee according to our practice policies.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Therapy is confidential and protected by privacy laws. Information discussed in sessions is not shared without your written permission except in rare situations required by law, such as safety concerns.
What happens during the first therapy session?
The first therapy session is an opportunity for you and your therapist to get to know one another. Your therapist will ask questions about what brings you to therapy, your current concerns, and some background information about your life and experiences.
You will also have time to ask questions, discuss your goals for therapy, and talk about what you hope to gain from the process.
How do I know which therapist at Coastal Wellness is right for me?
Finding the right therapist is an important part of the therapy process. Our administrative team can help guide you toward a therapist who may be a good fit based on your concerns, preferences, and availability.
We also encourage clients to schedule a free 15‑minute phone consultation so you can ask questions, learn about the therapist’s approach, and see if you feel comfortable working together.

What is EMDR therapy and how does it work?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence‑based therapy designed to help individuals process traumatic or distressing experiences.
During EMDR, the therapist guides the client through structured phases while using bilateral stimulation such as eye movements, tapping, or sounds. This process helps the brain reprocess difficult memories so they become less emotionally overwhelming.
Learn more about EMDR here:
https://www.coastalwellness.net/emdr
What is Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)?
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a structured therapy that uses eye movements and visualization techniques to help individuals process and resolve distressing memories.
ART can be helpful for trauma, anxiety, grief, phobias, and other emotional challenges, and many clients appreciate that it can often work in a shorter timeframe.
Do I have to talk about my trauma in detail during trauma therapy?
Many people worry that trauma therapy requires them to talk about painful experiences in great detail. Therapies such as EMDR and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) are designed to help process difficult memories without requiring clients to repeatedly describe the traumatic event in detail.
Your therapist will work at a pace that feels safe and manageable.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
Many people consider therapy when they feel overwhelmed, stuck, or are struggling with emotions, relationships, or life transitions. You do not have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy.
If you’re unsure whether therapy is right for you, scheduling a free 15‑minute phone consultation can help you explore whether counseling may be a good fit for your needs.
